The following letter was sent to all Curriculum Committee Members soliciting participation in a second "Understanding by Design workshop to be help on June 2 and June 3 in the Hoboken School District. This is in response to great interest among the committee after the initial workshop in late April.
Dear Curriculum Committee,
Through the efforts of Jennifer Lopez, we are able to have another two day ASCD Professional Development workshop on reviewing and modifying efforts at incorporating the "Understanding by Design" framework and "big ideas" into the curriculum. Recall, we had a similar workshop in district last week. The 2 day, full day workshop will take place on Tuesday June 2 and Wednesday June 3 from 8:30AM to 4PM at the Brandt Professional Development Center. What I would like is if each content area could commit 2 representatives to attend the workshop, preferably teachers who were not able to attend the workshop last week. Please respond to your availability to Ms Carol Whalen asap. My hope is to present the principals with a final list by midweek next week so that they may secure substitute teachers and/or make other professional arrangements for your classes. I would also appreciate if you could help facilitate this by supplying your building principal with any lesson plans or other instructional objectives in your absence.
