A US Airways plane with 155 people on board went into a frigid Hudson River, apparently after striking at least one bird upon takeoff from New York's LaGuardia Airport, according to officials and passengers. New York Governor Patterson has called it "The Miracle on the Hudson". Pictured are a group of people watching from the lookout at Stevens Institute of Technology on Thursday afternoon. From the expressions and relief of the people present, news had just circulated that there were no fatalities. No curriculum content today, just a celebration for the expertise of the pilot (Chelsey B. "Sully" Sullenberger) and of the hundreds of rescue workers from both sides of the Hudson River for their life saving efforts.
