New High School To Be Proposed For "Growing" Hoboken District
HOBOKEN, NJ — Hoboken Patch reports that the Hoboken Board of Education announced in a message to the school community Tuesday that due to enrollment increases and the aging of the district's school buildings — "many of them built before 1910" — the district will present plans for a new high school to the city's Planning Board next month. There will also be a special election regarding the plans in January, the board said.
Hoboken was built in 1962 and currently holds grades 9, 10, 11, and 12. However, the district enrollment in Hoboken High School as estimated by the Hoboken Board of Education's ASSA Report is quite low and does not exhibit significant growth in any meaningful manner (see Figure 1). Keep in mind, Hoboken High School had an original student capacity of 1500 students (see Figure 2).

Veteran's Day- Hoboken, NJ 2021
Veterans Day (originally known as Armistice Day) is a federal holiday in the United States observed annually on November 11, for honoring military veterans who served in the United States Armed Forces (who were discharged under conditions other than dishonorable). It coincides with other holidays including Armistice Day and Remembrance Day which are celebrated in other countries that mark the anniversary of the end of World War I. Major hostilities of World War I were formally ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918 when the Armistice with Germany went into effect. At the urging of major U.S. veteran organizations, Armistice Day was renamed Veterans Day in 1954.
Here are some pictures of the Veteran's Day observation in Hoboken, NJ on November 11, 2021 as well as a story from Hudson County View.

Teachers Worked More Hours Than Usual in the '20-'21 School Year - hours rise more than those in other professions.
This study, published this month in Educational Researcher, uses nationally representative data for the United States from the Basic Monthly Current Population Survey to document how teachers’ hours of work have changed in 2020 and 2021 relative to typical labor supply levels and to the hours worked by other college-educated professional workers. Controlling for demographics, teachers’ hours decreased early in the pandemic, but throughout the 2020–2021 school year teachers have been working more than usual. The increase is slightly more pronounced for veteran teachers and for females. The findings emphasize the increased demands of the teaching profession during the global pandemic.

Hoboken Dual Language Charter School Excels in First Ever US News and World Report Rankings for K-8 Schools
In the first-ever U.S. News & World Report ranking of private and public K-8 schools, the Hoboken Dual Language Charter School (HOLA) was ranked in the top 11% of all NJ Elementary Schools and in the top 5% of all NJ Middle Schools. As an early supporter and Board member, I am incredibly proud that Hola continues to offer a top-tier public education to all children of Hoboken while also helping to foster the next generation of bilingual global citizens.
Rankings are just one measure of a school community, but rankings are an objective and independent way of comparing schools.

Hoboken Public School District to Require Proof of Vaccination for Students: Students 12 and older must show proof of vaccination or submit to weekly testing
The Hoboken Public School District has announced that students 12 and older must show proof of vaccination for COVID-19 for the upcoming school year, or face weekly testing.
The new requirements were revealed in a reopening plan by the school district. Students along with staff members in the district that do not have proof of vaccination must undergo weekly tests for COVID onsite every Friday, beginning September 17.
The district will also randomly select a percentage (equaling New Jersey’s positivity rate) of students who are not yet age eligible for vaccinations for weekly COVID testing each week starting on September 17.
While the recent lifting of emergency approval for Pfizer doesn’t cover young people ages 12 to 15, these young people can still get the Pfizer vaccine through emergency use authorization. No Covid vaccines have been authorized or approved for use in children under 12. -NBC News August 23, 2021
