Per Pupil Cost Estimates for Hoboken Charter Schools, Preschool, and Hoboken Public School District for School Year 2022-23

Using data from the Preliminary School Budget/Fiscal year 2022-23 (Figure 1) and the 2022-23 ASSA Report (Figure 2) here are some back of the envelope estimates on per pupil costs in Hoboken for the three charter schools, for PreK education, and for the Hoboken Public School District. The general model used for calculation was the total amount of revenues from all sources allocated for PreK-12 public education in Hoboken, divided by the number of students as determined by the Application for State School Aid (ASSA) or "October 15th district daily enrollment numbers (ADA). 


Charter Schools (Hola, Hoboken Charter, Elysian) 
Total Transfer to Charter Schools: $11,942,641
Total Enrollment: 834 students 
Cost per student: $14,910

Preschool Education 
Total Contribution (local and state): $16, 556, 460 
Enrollment: 801 students 
Cost per student: $20,670 

Hoboken Public School District 
Total Contribution = Total Appropriations - (Transfer to Charter Schools + Preschool Education Program) 
Total Contribution = $88,150,524 - ($11,942,641 + $16,556,640) 
Total Contribution = $ 88,150,524 - $28,499,281
Total Contribution = $59,651,243
Enrollment: 2187 students 
Cost per student: $27,275
