Through a violent cocktail of intimidation, greed, corruption, and indifference, over 50 Hoboken residents, mostly children, lost their lives in fires that ravaged the city during the era of post-industrial urban renewal. Arriving four decades after the apex of the fires, <a href="https://www.clopezphotography.com">photographer Chris López, a Bronx native of Puerto Rican parentage</a>, critically engages the afterlives of arson, displacement, and dispossession. Unlike the historic and well documented history of fires in the Bronx, very few photographers captured images of the arsons in Hoboken and even fewer scholars have studied the phenomenon. The existing archive is deeply indebted to the work of journalists, the painstaking work of community organizers, and a few documentary filmmakers who captured the terror, uncertainty, and destruction of that time period. In this context, The Fires represents the first exhibit of its kind to visit this history alongside those who were most deeply impacted."</span></div><div><span style="font-size: large;"><br />We encourage everyone to visit this powerful exhibit, which will be displayed at the <a href="https://sssw.hunter.cuny.edu">Silberman School of Social Work in El Barrio</a>, located at 2180 3rd Ave. Visiting hours are Mondays-Fridays 10am-5pm.</span></div></div>Dr. Anthony Petrosinohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10115534661613149019noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2224184038328604541.post-60220133720535176152024-02-05T06:54:00.004-06:002024-02-08T11:22:00.794-06:00Petrosino to Serve on Committee at the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine <p style="text-align: left;"><span face="Arial, sans-serif" style="color: #cc0035; font-size: x-large;">Associate Dean at the Simmons School of Education and Human Development invited to serve on Board on Science Education committee for PreK-12 STEM Education Innovations</span></p><span style="font-size: large;">Associate Dean for Research and Outreach at Simmons School of Education and Human Development, Anthony Petrosino, has recently been invited and has accepted the invitation to serve as a member of the <a href="https://www.nationalacademies.org/our-work/prek-12-stem-education-innovations?utm_source=provost&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=provost_weekly_newsletter">Board on Science Education committee on PreK-12 STEM Education Innovations</a>. There is evidence that informal math done by children is highly effective, involving efficiency, flexibility, and socializing. This research takes place at 9 informal learning sites and involves iteratively designing an app in which learners can view and contribute to an interactive map of math walk stops at these sites. Learners will be able to select locations and watch short videos or view pictures with text that describe how mathematical principles are present in their surroundings. For example, learners could use the app to discover how a painting by a local Latino artist uses ratio and scale, or how a ramp in downtown was designed with a specific slope to accommodate wheelchairs. </span></p><p><span style="background-color: white; caret-color: rgb(27, 27, 27); color: #1b1b1b; font-family: Verdana; font-size: large;">Research studies will examine the affordances of augmented reality (AR) overlays where learners can hold up the camera of their mobile device, and see mathematical representations (e.g., lines, squares) layered over real-world objects in their camera feed. Research studies will also examine the impact of having learners create their own math walk stops at local informal learning sites, uploading pictures, descriptions, and linking audio they narrate, where they make observations about how math appears in their surroundings and pose interesting questions about STEM ideas and connections they wonder about. </span></p>Dr. Anthony Petrosinohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10115534661613149019noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2224184038328604541.post-63950868483178932422024-01-11T09:31:00.002-06:002024-01-11T09:38:23.936-06:00Deadline Fast Approaching for Hoboken's PUBLIC (free) Charter School Lotteries <p></p><blockquote style="border: none; margin: 0px 0px 0px 40px; padding: 0px;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="font-size: large;">For all those interested in entering the lottery for Hoboken's Public (free) Charter Schools. A resiliency park capable of holding 400,000 gallons of water would represent 2.29% of the rainfall that falls during a 1 inch rainfall</span></div><div><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span><span style="font-size: large;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjnhOF-hFY3M0C5HAiksBWogo7CU9dWGWkVoS6yv7OjfJsh2VAFBM55dRBZjI2npmuhHiLhum-w1HZ0DAq22PaVhYQp1ntNCy7SSh_5R4fpR7SbapHQSjzxLvmll8LvPBugXPWDQN-qL-uzjx5_UbLqVVCAcFc6GkLJ3SF9T2MWo2LZb2Y6MEiEQFvG1iQ/s1206/Screen%20Shot%202023-12-15%20at%2010.03.08%20AM.png" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="694" data-original-width="1206" height="184" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjnhOF-hFY3M0C5HAiksBWogo7CU9dWGWkVoS6yv7OjfJsh2VAFBM55dRBZjI2npmuhHiLhum-w1HZ0DAq22PaVhYQp1ntNCy7SSh_5R4fpR7SbapHQSjzxLvmll8LvPBugXPWDQN-qL-uzjx5_UbLqVVCAcFc6GkLJ3SF9T2MWo2LZb2Y6MEiEQFvG1iQ/s320/Screen%20Shot%202023-12-15%20at%2010.03.08%20AM.png" width="320" /></a></div></span></div></div><div><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-size: large;">Answer: Please assess the relative effectiveness of this resiliency park. </span></div><div><br /></div><div><b>Additional Information:</b> <a href="https://www.tapinto.net/towns/hoboken/sections/green/articles/have-your-say-hoboken-residents-invited-to-take-800-monroe-resiliency-park-survey">https://www.tapinto.net/towns/hoboken/sections/green/articles/have-your-say-hoboken-residents-invited-to-take-800-monroe-resiliency-park-survey</a></div><div><br /></div><div><a href="https://patch.com/new-jersey/hoboken/no-pool-you-can-still-choose-plan-800-monroe-st-hoboken">https://patch.com/new-jersey/hoboken/no-pool-you-can-still-choose-plan-800-monroe-st-hoboken</a></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div>Dr. Anthony Petrosinohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10115534661613149019noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2224184038328604541.post-59818051929032083532023-12-06T09:55:00.012-06:002023-12-06T10:13:48.242-06:00Presinzano wins Hoboken 1st Ward Council Seat <a href="https://hudsoncountyview.com/presinzano-wins-hoboken-1st-ward-council-seat-in-first-runoff-election-since-2009/"><b><span style="font-size: large;">Paul Presinzano is now the councilman-elect in Hoboken’s 1st Ward, winning the first runoff in the Mile Square City since 2009 by an unofficial tally of 692 to 529.</span></b></a><br /><br /><span style="font-size: medium;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRnzXe3TnB7TjNW_Ekm9sAYyAUUxcPTttk_3Zl0IEvnN_tgeEDUCOyPQNbn90sQqcIlfrH2CcDB0-Zssz1XqJ2mXSFR_MnOqdIowCrNE50VE2qBIla8-oOSUU8g4fZU9Kj0Hv0-GRKAyrrbYGGczXi0cR-yYakcySjS7fx1Y_HqDJ8RHx67ZPlLpJMxNI/s1408/Screen%20Shot%202023-12-06%20at%2010.54.23%20AM.png" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1112" data-original-width="1408" height="253" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRnzXe3TnB7TjNW_Ekm9sAYyAUUxcPTttk_3Zl0IEvnN_tgeEDUCOyPQNbn90sQqcIlfrH2CcDB0-Zssz1XqJ2mXSFR_MnOqdIowCrNE50VE2qBIla8-oOSUU8g4fZU9Kj0Hv0-GRKAyrrbYGGczXi0cR-yYakcySjS7fx1Y_HqDJ8RHx67ZPlLpJMxNI/s320/Screen%20Shot%202023-12-06%20at%2010.54.23%20AM.png" width="320" /></a></div>John Hines of Hudson County View reports: (</span><a href="https://hudsoncountyview.com/presinzano-wins-hoboken-1st-ward-council-seat-in-first-runoff-election-since-2009/" style="font-size: large;">full article</a><span style="font-size: medium;">) </span><br /><div><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-size: medium;">This was the first runoff election since Peter Cammarano defeated Dawn Zimmer for the mayor’s seat <a href="https://hudsoncountyview.com/ex-hoboken-mayor-zimmer-who-ran-in-last-2-runoffs-weighs-in-on-december-races/">in 2009</a>. The results from pattern-based assessment items, as introduced in this paper, are categorical and multimodal and do not immediately support the use of measures of central tendency as typically related to interpretations of measures of statistical significance. Responses from the duplicate implementation of selected pattern-based items (PBIs) in successive grades (3-8) as part of the statewide Interim Assessment Program in Texas are used to illustrate how non-parametric methods can be used to establish statistically significant comparisons of student results. Not all the repeat-item results improved across years.</span></span></div><div><span face="sans-serif" style="background-color: white; caret-color: rgb(51, 51, 51); color: #333333;"><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></span></div><div><span style="font-size: medium;"><span face="sans-serif" style="background-color: white; caret-color: rgb(51, 51, 51); color: #333333;">Link to presentation: </span><a href="https://tinyurl.com/27hr86zv">https://tinyurl.com/27hr86zv</a></span></div><div><span style="font-size: medium;">Link to the full paper: <a href="https://convention2.allacademic.com/one/pmena/pmena23/index.php?cmd=Online+Program+Download+Document&document_type=document&key=online_program_view_paper_downloads&document_key=ac2d81644ee1bd0c3738610b0824f850&filename=pmena23_proceeding_2067699.pdf&PHPSESSID=g4piq6n4qq7170a3fclbdsieq5">https://tinyurl.com/mrt7d5m8</a></span></div><div><br /></div><div><span style="font-size: medium;">Reference: <span style="font-family: Helvetica;">Stroup, W.
